Leaning close he could hear the slow, but steady thud of Liam’s heart, still fighting to survive.

“Liam…” he  brushed a fingertip against the slender arch of Liam’s foot. One of the few spots he could see that wasn’t covered in blood or bruises. How had he let this happen?

The slight hands Liam always caressed his face with were bound and curled into fists. His knuckles red and swollen. A spark of intense pride wove through his pain. Liam had fought back.
